Hazard Information Portal

How to use

To access coastal hazards information, select the link for ‘Coastal Hazards’ from the Hazards Portal home page. This will bring up a mapping tool. You will need to select ‘I Agree’ to start it.

  • Address Search - Using the Address Search box at the bottom of the screen you can type in a specific address, and the mapping tool will zoom in on that particular address, or simply zoom in to a part of the coast you are interested in.
  • Layers - You can then turn on various ‘layers’ of hazards information by selecting and de-selecting the hazards layers from the tool bar to the left of the screen.   The following layers can turned on and off in this way:
  • Coastal Erosion - Layers of probability (likely, possible, very unlikely and highly unlikely) that coastal erosion will affect land in the present day, at 2065 and at 2120.
  • Coastal Inundation - The extent of coastal inundation (flooding by sea water) possible in a 1% storm event (i.e. there is 1% chance of a storm of that magnitude happening every year) in the present day, at 2065 and at 2120.
  • Regional Coastal Environment Plan Hazard Zones - The current coastal hazard zone in the Regional Coastal Environment Plan.
  • Napier District Plan Hazard Zone - The current coastal hazard zone in the Napier District Plan.
  • Aerial photographs and other information.
